Week 5 - Hypothesis Testing: A Matter of Study
During this week, Team Argonauts formulated several assumptions regarding the common responses the group will collect from its potential interviewees based on the questions made. At this point, the group had made an enormous discovery as to how much there is to know about what the group was trying to find and that the assumptions were yet to be validated.
"There are two possible outcomes: if the result confirms the hypothesis, then you've made a measurement. If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you've made a discovery." ~ Enrico Fermi
INTERVIEW PLANNING: THE BIRTH OF CURIOSITY
When conducting an interview, an interview question is required consisting of several questions that relate to the study. With this, it is also essential that despite the creation of interview questions, a specific data subject should also be given importance to the group should interview. As per what was decided, ages 17 - 24 were the initial interviewee groups to be interviewed during this process. In addition, a professional was considered since they play an essential part in the study where they are more knowledgeable about problems the group wanted to find possible solutions.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING: THE ASSUMPTIONS
As we all know, hypothesis testing is the common ground, a method, and practice among researchers where an alternative hypothesis is tested and compared to the null hypothesis. In addition, it is a statistical approach to whether either of the two hypotheses should be rejected. This process was crucial for the group since several hypotheses needed to be tested during the interview with which the information to be gathered from the data subjects matters.
THE ARGONAUT'S REALIZATION
In the vastness of research, the world is not small at all. There were more than we thought it would be after interviewing our expected data subjects and a professional in this case. This week became a critical point for the group as a "bite the bullet" that there is more to know, a truth that was never thought of in the first place.
